The latest employment data has been released by the ONS (Office for National Statistics) and it's good news again, with the highlight being an additional 74,000 people working in the UK compared to the previous quarter and 774,000 on the previous year. Employment now stands at 73% for 16 to 64 year olds.
As a consequence, unemployment has also fallen, 146,000 less people over 16 are seeking work last quarter, 468,000 for the year. Unemployment now sits at 6.2%. Similarly, the number claiming job seekers allowance is down to the lowest level since August 2008 at 0.97 million people. That's a fall of 37,000 on the quarter and 424,000 for the year.
