A recent survey of 1,000 students by FutureLearn shows that a career in coding or software development is now favored over medicine, law and forensic science.
Coding came in as the top choice for 23% of respondents, beating medicine at 22%, law at 16% and forensic science at 15%. Not surprisingly, the top factor when choosing a career is the earning potential (52%), followed by interesting work (50%) and work-life balance (45%).
This is great news for the software development industry. If student's top considerations are money and the work, and they prefer coding to medicine or law, then the message must be getting through about the great opportunities that exist in the digital sector in the UK.
